What? The Podcast

For a long time I’ve been intrigued with the idea of creating a podcast. I find that, depending upon who I’m with, once I get into a stream of consciousness, talking about a particular subject is easy and natural even if I am talking into a microphone. For a while, the idea of talking into a microphone for an hour seemed like a daunting task, but soon I realized that a talker like myself can go on for much longer than that when talking about something I’m passionate about. After I got over the content portion of being afraid of starting the podcast I moved into the crippling self doubt period.

Sure, I had things to talk about but would anything that I had to say be good enough to listen to for an hour? I feel like content creators don’t talk about this part enough. The horrible, crippling self doubt that everyone has before they start a new project. Not knowing how something is going to turn out, especially something time consuming, is frightening. But at the end of the day, as corny as it sounds, every journey begins with a single step.

So that’s what I’ve done; I’ve taken the first step, and this article’s primary and hidden purpose was to introduce our new brain child, “What? The Podcast”. Along with my co-host Brie, we talk about topics that range from thought experiments to controversial topics, primarily in the scientific fields but also walking the line into others. The first podcast that we’ve put out and now available for streaming, is called “Welcome to the Madhouse.” This episode is meant to be an introduction to how we are going to be recording podcasts in the future all while talking about the “easy”, “non-controversial”, starter topic of “the Illuminati”.

While neither of us would be considered true conspiracy theorists we thought that we would introduce our audience to our witty banter through a thought experiment of “do the Illuminati exist?” “And if they do, what are they up to right now?” I graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Plant Science from the University of Arizona and Brie is currently pursuing her Masters in Chemistry, and part of being an effective scientist is being able to conduct thought experiments, be skeptical, and think critically about problems you are presented with no matter how silly they may seem.

Our goal is to entertain, educate, and connect with other people who love talking about and debating topics that may not come up naturally in day to day conversation. Some of our future podcast topics may include: ethics in science, climate change, gender, psychology, and flat-earthers. We are very excited to embark on this new journey with all of you and we hope that you’ll give the podcast a listen. You can now currently find the first episode on Spotify right now by searching “What? The Podcast”. Please give us a listen and a follow as we will be dropping a new episode every Wednesday!

Thank you everyone for all your support and we look forward to hearing what you all think!
